Announcement about opening for worship

Horsham with Slinfold United Reformed Church

Dear Friends,

It feels like we are on the brink of a new adventure!

Opening up Horsham URC and Slinfold Chapel for worship seems almost alien, after all these weeks and weeks of not being able to come together. I’ve counted. 2nd of August will be the 20th Sunday since we closed our buildings, and that is quite a chunk of our year. During these weeks we have connected in different ways, and I really want to make sure that we continue to make sure that everyone who wishes to receive resources for Sunday Worship through the door or over the internet will continue to do so. The one really important thing is to make sure that everyone decides to do what is best for them. Whatever your decision, you are still part of this fellowship!

For those who do feel able to attend, you will already have realised that it will all be very different - - my plan is that after 10 minutes you will feel that it actually feels almost normal. We will be ‘doing’ church very differently, but actually it’s still worship, we will pray, meditate on a couple of hymns, hear the Bible read to us. There will be a reflection of the Bible passage we’ve heard. We have communion on Sunday, and I encourage you to bring your own bread.

I take comfort in words from Isaiah 43:

But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. 2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

18Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. 19I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

We rejoice in the God who claims us as his own. And we trust him as he leads us into the new thing he is about to do. He will never leave us!

For those of you who feel it’s right for you to stay home - pray for us, we need your prayer!

For those who are able to attend - bring an open mind!

affectionately,

Kristin
