Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is the day that the church reminds us that we are but dust and to dust we will return, for we come from God and to God we shall go. There is so much that gets in the way of that simple truth. This reminder of our mortality is also a reminder of where we truly belong - with God. From Ash Wednesday we embark on the annual six week journey towards Good Friday, during which we, in our flawed and hesitant ways, do our best to turn our face towards God, and do our best to get rid of everything in our lives that prevents us from living honestly, hopefully and simply, with reverence for One who created us and who waits for us to come home.  In this service we are reminded of the promises of God: That we are God’s, that there is no sin, no darkness, and yes, no grave that God will not come to find us in and love us back to life. That where two or more are gathered, Christ is with us. These promises outlast our earthly bodies and the limits of time.
